*DEBUT* OLEKSANDR USYK (UKRAINE) vs FELIPE ROMERO (MEXICO) - FULL FIGHT
So guys we have seen a very slick, nimble and crafty Cruiserweight in the debut of Oleksandr Usyk. Now of course his opponent wasn't the best but we can agree that given the necessary transition from the Amateurs to Pro, fighting Felipe Romero with 16 wins and 7 losses was a good test for Usyk to wet his feet upon entering the Pro scene.
One of the things that I found impressive was the fact that Usyk let his lead hand do the initial work before committing to his backhand and the coordination between his footwork and his hands enabled this.
When you have a complete Jab or something close to it one of the things it will allow you to do is be more comfortable with maintaining the range, which will improve the accuracy of your right hand.
Now we saw Usyk get a knockdown in the 3rd but check how many times he targeted the body to achieve this... not gonna lie but that must have been absolutely gut-wrenching for Romero to endure whilst deciding how he was going to stand.
Now in the 5th round, we saw Romero come out in a Southpaw stance, in maybe some effort to lessen the advantage he saw Usyk with but in my opinion this tactical switch only accelerated the TKO that followed in that round
So this fight occurred a year after Usyk won Olympic Gold in the London 2012 Olympics.
So, I have a quick question for you guys
Now I see many similarities between Usyk as an amateur and as a pro but beyond the pacing of the fight and his punch power my question for you guys is what differences can you name or identify with Usyk from the amateurs to the pros? Let me know in the comments
