David Koma presents Resort 2021 Digital Campaign Film to coincide with the launch of the collection on https://www.davidkoma.com/
Earlier this year, in the face of global limitations, David Koma found himself yearning to escape. The confines of travel restrictions inspired a project more personal than most; a deep dive into his fantasy world with an exploration of his love for three-dimensional computer graphics and digital art.
With remote work as a prerequisite, 2020 eliminated distance as a barrier for collaboration, allowing David to assemble a talented team from around the world - creators who have never met in real life - to bring his quarantine daydream into the digital existence.
The protagonist in the resulting 3D world is the first digital Koma Girl - a figment of designer’s imagination, that he named Tamar M, in a nod to 12th Century Queen Tamar of Georgia. The first woman to rule David’s motherland, Tamar is known for her power and intellect, that elevated the country to its zenith in the Middle Ages.
Tamar embarks on an escapist journey through a multitude of other-worldly locations, finding liberation from the monotony of her world to re-discovering herself in the idyllic forest. The viewer is left to question – was her journey real, or did these adventures only exist in her wildest dreams?
With the uncertainty surrounding the future of the classic fashion shows, David and the team utilised the conventional runway angles as the point of view in their imagined universe, creating a fictional catwalk through the immersive 3D world.
Re-connecting the digital with nature, a bespoke organic soundscape made the film come alive. From the trilling birdsongs to the subtle flutter of butterfly wings, the sounds were recorded outdoors, around the British Isles. Even the percussions, heard throughout the film, were created by tapping a wooden bat on the tree trunks in Epping Forest, just outside of London.

About David Koma:
David Koma is a London-based fashion designer who has become synonymous with the ultra body contouring silhouette, creating sculptural statement dresses inspired by the feminine form. Alongside the cocktail dresses that propelled the designer onto the international stage, David Koma offering has expanded to include full range of options from precise daywear separates to beautifully tailored outerwear and showstopping red carpet gowns.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, David Koma discovered his penchant for dress design at the young age of eight. David studied Fine Art in St Petersburg, showing his first collection at the age of 15. In 2003 David moved to London to take up a place at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduating with a distinction in MA Fashion in April 2009 under the mentorship of the late Professor Louise Wilson, OBE.
Straight after graduation David Koma launched his eponymous ready-to-wear brand and has been a participant of London Fashion Week ever since.
