Classic static equilibrium ladder problem!

In this ladder example for static equilibrium, in order to calculate how high before the ladder slips in this physics ladder problem, we start by populating the diagram with force vectors, reasoning that the static friction force must point to the right based on the direction of the normal force exerted at the wall.

Next, we discuss why the friction force must grow as the person climbs the ladder.

Finally, we do the static equilibrium analysis on the static equilibrium slipping ladder problem, starting with the sum of the torques about the contact point with the ground, then the equation for the sum of the x and y forces. Finally, we arrive at an equation in which the distance, x, up the ladder is the only unknown. We compute the solution to the slipping ladder statics problem and find the maximum height up the ladder before slipping.
