http://www.johngibbonsbodymaster.co.u... John Gibbons is a sports Osteopath and a lecturer for the 'Bodymaster Method ®' and in this video he is discussing the origin, insertion and action of the rectus femoris (RF) muscle of the hip joint. The RF attaches from the AIIS and travels to the tibial tuberosity via the quadricep tendon and patella ligament that encompasses the sesamoid bone of the patella. The RF is an hip flexor working with the psoas, iliacus, adductors, TFL, and sartorius. This muscle is also an extender of the knee and is innervated by the femoral nerve from L2-L4 of the lumbar plexus. The RF is easily strained in sports like football and if this muscle becomes tight then can take the innominate (pelvis) into an anteriorly rotated position, which subsequently makes the lumbar spine compensate and go into extension and the lumbar spine facet joints can compress causing lower back pain.
