Russia's Central Military District Refueling Combat Training In Chelyabinsk Region
Pilots of the Central Military District have completed in-air refueling of multifunctional Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft during a tactical flight exercise in the Chelyabinsk Region.
The crews of the Su-34 and Su-24MR completed single and twin approaches the tanker at an altitude of about 7000 meters, approaching the Il-78 to a distance of 10-15 meters. Moving at a speed of about 650 km / h, the pilots performed more than 100 refuelings, most of which - in conditions of limited visibility: access to the refueling zone was carried out in dense clouds.
In the course of performing the most complex element of flight training, the crews of the two types of aircraft learned to interact with the tanker commander, who controlled the flight speed and altitude, the distance between the aircraft, and the sequence of approaches to the aircraft. Fuel transfer was carried out using special equipment: the boom of the refueled aircraft and the IL-78 cone sensor.
