MAC Address Limitation: One common method is to restrict access based on MAC addresses. Each network device has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address, which is a hardware identifier. With port security, you can specify which MAC addresses are allowed to connect to a particular port. Any device with a MAC address not on the allowed list will be denied access.
Maximum Number of MAC Addresses: You can also limit the maximum number of MAC addresses allowed on a port. For example, if you set the limit to one, only one device can be connected to that port at any given time. If a new device tries to connect when the limit has been reached, it will be denied access.
Violation Actions: Port security typically allows you to define actions to take when a violation occurs. Violations can happen when unauthorized devices attempt to connect or when the maximum number of allowed devices is exceeded. Common actions include shutting down the port, sending an alert, or simply logging the event.
Dynamic Address Learning: Port security can dynamically learn MAC addresses that are allowed to connect to a port. When a device successfully authenticates, its MAC address is added to the allowed list for that port.
