Today's Indonesia adventure has brought us to Denpasar, Bali in search of the Indonesian street food Martabak, more specifically Martabak Manis or Terangbulan, our new favourite dessert!
We have tried it a couple of times but never like this… this was on a whole other level from the Martabak we have ever tried.
Martabak Manis is definitely our favourite dessert from any that we have tried in Indonesia and maybe even from the whole of Asia!

Martabak manis is a thick and sweet Indonesian pancake, a popular street food treat enjoyed all over the country, especially in the evenings.
Here's a breakdown of its key characteristics:
Taste: Sweet and decadent, often combining seemingly contrasting flavors like chocolate, cheese, and condensed milk.
Appearance: Thick and fluffy, resembling a giant pancake, cooked in a special pan using a lot of shortening.
Toppings: The star of the show! Common choices include chocolate, cheese, peanuts, condensed milk, and Nutella. Vendors often allow you to choose your own combination.
Alternative Names:
Terang bulan: Meaning "full moon" in Indonesian, used in some regions like Surabaya.
Martabak Bangka: Named after Bangka Island, where it's especially popular.
If you're ever in Indonesia and have a sweet tooth, be sure to try martabak manis! It's a delicious and unique experience.
