Is a Transvaginal Ultrasound Painful
Most patients are afraid of hearing the terms Transvaginal Ultrasound, or Internal Scan, and Vaginal Scan. Why are they afraid of hearing those terms? What do we tell them? How do we make them feel comfortable? Let's talk about it in this video.
The main thing that every patient needs to understand is that every time we do a transvaginal ultrasound, the probe is entirely covered by a hand care or a glove or a condom or anything to cover the probe, and it is cleaned every time after a scan.
We not only use hand care or a condom to just cover the probe, but we also apply a lot of jelly. So we use either anesthetic jelly, cream or lubricating jelly and the person who does the scan is very calm and relaxed, and they engage with the patient, so the pain you endure will be much lesser.Another thing that the patients must understand is to calm themselves down and not lift their hips and widen their pelvic passage. When muscles are relaxed, the Transvaginal ultrasound isn't all that painful at all.
