The U.S. Navy just commissioned the future USS Cooperstown LCS-23 as the newest Independence-variant littoral combat ship, or LCS, on May 8 in New York City. This accomplishment places the ship that the Lockheed Martin-led team built into active service with the U.S. Navy.
Cooperstown is the first naval ship named after Cooperstown, New York and honours the 70 Hall of Famers who served the United States during wartime in various conflicts spanning the Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.
