The Two Camera Classic Live Production Setup
This week on the World Studio Tour, we take a look at another "Pop Up" Studio. So many videographers and broadcast professionals already know the power of a two camera shoot but for the newbies out there we call this the "2 Camera Classic". Someone in our chatroom asked, "Why not use a single camera... It has PTZ functionality and can therefore cover all the areas shown...". This is a common thought that we address in this video. From a video producers standpoint the more cameras the better. But from a mobile, one man production standpoint, the less equipment with the best result is usually the goal.
Here is where the 2 camera live video production setup shines. The power of two live camera shots is the ability to transition from one to the next without having to show actual PTZ camera movement which can be distracting and robotic. Clearly video producers want to have as many camera options as possible to create a high quality production. So in order to streamline setup and cut costs many video producers are using robotic cameras with the combination of a PTZ joystick controller to setup multiple camera angles with a single or pair of PTZ cameras.
Keep in mind that both cameras may not have to be Pan, Tilt and Zoom enabled. You can use the Classic 2 Camera Shoot with a single static shot and a secondary PTZ camera which provides the close ups and camera variability. If possible one of the best ways to setup the 2 camera shoot is from the center where each camera is setup side by side. This way each camera will have similar lighting.
