Since the Kosovo government made the euro its only recognised currency in February, effectively banning the Serbian dinar, many of Kosovo's ethnic Serbs have struggled to access money, having long been reliant "parallel structures" -- that is, health and social services for Serbs in Kosovo funded by Serbia. Pristina defends the currency change as a measure to curb the influx of Serbian cash and crack down on organised crime, but Serbs in the north have now had to organise trips across the border to collect their pensions.
