The tracks run mostly through residential neighborhoods and haven’t changed, preserving that Showa‑era atmosphere. From the slow‑moving tram’s windows, you can glimpse the everyday life of Tokyo’s downtown—a truly precious view.
On this trip, I began at the terminus station, Waseda, then strolled from Kishibojin '鬼子母神' Temple to the Takada neighborhood around Mejiro '面影橋', capturing footage of early‑April cherry blossoms along the tram line. Afterward, I wandered through Higashi‑Ikebukuro, Asukayama '飛鳥山' , and Arakawa‑Amusement Park 'あらかわ遊園', taking my time to explore the towns along the way.
The streets I knew so well in childhood haven’t changed much, and they filled me with a peaceful nostalgia. Because the cherry blossoms were slow to bloom, I made several trips to film them—an effort that paid off, as I’m very pleased with the footage I got. I also think the gentle atmosphere at Arakawa‑Amusement Park will resonate with everyone. Enjoy!
