“It’s time to play ball!” Each year, the San Francisco Giants and Donor Network West pick a child to say those words and start the game on Donate Life Day. This year, Mason Patel gets the honor – a Triple A Little League ballplayer out of San Jose who names baseball as his favorite sport.

Mason was born with both of his kidneys enlarged and failing at the time of birth. He received a kidney transplant at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford at 16-months old. In 2014, many other centers were not transplanting this young. His donor was someone extra special to him – his mom, Sital.

“We each have one of my kidneys – thanks to technology and science and all the great doctors at Packard Children’s that made it happen,” she says.

Mason is not defined by his transplant – he’s simply loving life as an active 10-year-old boy. Tune in to cheer on Mason alongside his dad Janesh, mom Sital, and their family and friends!
