My guest today is an old friend from East Anglia - Nicky Reynolds. Nicky is one of the organisers of / womenslandarmylivinghistory and has been a Women's Land Army living historian and collector for over 20 years. She was also part of a project called Sharing Suffolk Stories to record WLA stories in conjunction with the Suffolk Record Office.
At it's peak in 1944, there were more than 80,000 women in the Women's Land Army in Great Britain a quarter of whom were on dairy farms. The idea of uniformed women working in agriculture was also adopted in other countries including the USA and Australia. Nicky will talk about the organisation and work of the WLA and elaborate on their vital role keeping Britain fed in WWII.
