I work with #dogs who have been through #trauma. I let the owner sit, wait, watch, & help. Animals that have been through trauma are hard to groom & if harmed during the process, they become aggressive. When an owner finds me, it's usually taken a long time to find me. By then the dog has seen more than several groomers that couldn't safely finish the job and in that, the dog has continued to lose trust. Sometimes if it isn't another groomer, sometimes it is at a veterinarian clinic, a puppy mill, or the owner him/herself did it. 20 years has taught me where and why. If you can't accomplish somethings, just say no, it's ok. All dogs can't shouldn't go through sedation for a regular grooming every month or couple months for life. In my opinion it could be devastating to the body in the long run in my opinion. Owners find me and we work together to help that dog start to relearn grooming. I can't fix you or your dog, I can guide you into what we can do and what I need you to do to help your dog let me groom him/her for the rest of his/her life, and dogs that are too old to change too blind to be able to cooperate, too close to death to be sedated for a hair cut, well, we just do our best, the parent I believe is the best advocate for being there for the dog he/she loves so much; I let that person hold and I ask they come in monthly or weekly if possible to maintain the hair and pay a much lower rate for the pets sake.
