70 years ago, India and China signed an Agreement — the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

The Five Principles also known in India as Panchsheel, laid the foundation for India-China bilateral relationship.
These Principles are : 1) Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty; 2) Mutual non-aggression; 3) Mutual non-interference; 4) Equality and mutual benefit; and 5) Peaceful co-existence.

Importance
These principles emphasize peaceful resolution of disputes, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference.
Act as a confidence-building measure, especially during periods of tension or conflict.
Relevance in Present Context
Due to its non-binding nature, enforcement, and implementation becomes a challenging goal.
The 1962 war and subsequent border rows like Tawang sector, Galwan valley dispute made it difficult to achieve the true potential of Panchsheel.
CPEC is yet another aggressive intent of China against India’s territorial sovereignty.
