So, you need your vocals professionally mixed. Luckily for you, I have a good amount of experience in vocal mixing. A lot of experience actually. What’s up geniuses? My name is Adriel Rivera and welcome back to the channel where you learn to show your genius. Today I’m going to be showing you how to mix your vocals in FL Studio 20.

1. Record a good vocal
No reverb
Gain is set right (No Clipping)
Decent Microphone

2. Pitch Correction
Pitch correction makes your vocal sound 10x more professional because it’s more pleasing to hear
Use Newtone
Center completely
No variation to make it easier
Bring back variation after you’ve corrected everything
Minor adjustments in variation for certain parts

3. Compression
Compression takes the loud and quiet parts of your vocal and brings them closer together in volume to reduce the dynamic range.
Threshold in simple terms: Where the compression starts
Ratio in simple terms: How much compression is being applied. X:1 every xdb is converted to 1db
Knee in simple terms: The gradualness of the compression. Smooths out where the compression starts to get a more “natural” sound
Attack in simple terms: How long it takes for the compression to start
Release in simple terms: How long it takes for the compression to finish
Industry Standard Vocal Compression ratio is about 2:1 but you wanna mess around with what might sound better. I noticed rap vocals tend to compress at a little higher of a ratio (3:1)
Shorter release gives it a more commercial vocal sound. By this I mean what you’re used to hearing on the radio.

4. EQ
Changes the volume of certain frequencies to accentuate what sounds good in your voice or whatever it is you’re EQ-ing.
Probably where most people go wrong. You don’t need to over-do EQ. It's all about understanding what EQ does, to figure out where you need to apply it
You don’t need to use every band of an EQ. I used to go crazy with my EQ, but now I’ve learned that with my vocals less is more.
Remove low end because its unnecessary
Clear muddy and nasally frequencies
Boost high end for more shimmer if your voice will benefit from it

5. De-esser
Removes harsh “S” sounds in your vocal
More pleasant listening experience

6. Get creative with reverb & delay
Add your own flare. Some people like to use minimal effects, some people go crazy
