In 2024, we're seeing some interesting trends in the popularity of programming languages, - it's like looking at chart where the size of the font shows the popularity of the programming languages. At the top of the list, we have JavaScript, Python, and Java. PHP is also standing its ground with noticeable usage.
A bit further down the list, we have C and C++ squaring off against the big players. TypeScript is unique; it's a transpiled language and can be sort of bundled with JavaScript since TypeScript can be transpiled to JavaScript to run in a browser. Smaller yet, we spot Kotlin and Swift, favorite languages for developing mobile apps on Android and iOS platforms.
Interestingly, we spot Java, Objective-C, Swift, and Kotlin near the top because mobile app development largely depends on them. Way down here we have some lesser-known ones like Ada, Scala which is a derivative of Java, Julia, ABAP, Groovy another Java variant, Dart, Visual Basic, Perl, and Lua. There's one so tiny I can barely read it, - probably Cobol.
There's another one exceptionally tiny; not sure what that is. Point being, size reflects popularity in our programming language landscape.
