I had the pleasure of selling this gorgeous, 2002 Ducati 998S Bostrom Replica to the original owner as well as the current owner while at Ducati Seattle. Ben Bostrom was a popular American roadracer who made it onto the World Superbike stage competing on a factory Ducati. This Superbike was created to commemorate Bostrom's success.

The first owner was an airline pilot and never had enough time to ride, too much life and work happening and ended up bringing it to us in April of 2004 with only 953 miles to find a long-term home. Owner # 2 is the one who added all the aftermarket goodies, special care and attention was spent on choosing the best aftermarket parts for the machine, while also being mindful to retain all the stock parts. Shortly after purchase in 2004, the new owner had the opportunity to meet Ben Bostrom Ducati Seattle's 5-year anniversary who was nice enough to come out and add a 2nd autograph on tail section of the 998S, which was later cleared over for preservation.

The list of upgrades would be long, carbon fiber add-ons appear to be mainly Ducati Performance items, all period pieces. Sato rear-sets, lots of STM billet bits, CRG levers, Cox Racing, a Quick-change rear sprocket set up with spare gearing and more. Suspension was set up by our friends at KFG Motorsports and Dyno tuning was done by Dave Lanigan of Speeddealer Motors.

When we received the bike on consignment last week it was decided we should go ahead and perform the recommended 2 year recommended service, that includes new timing belts and all fluids and make sure it runs proper. This is a very healthy 998, good compression, solid feeling chassis, absolutely zero issues or flaws were found. Tires on it are from Jan 2014, we also received the original set of "French Dunlop's" the 998S Bostrom was delivered with. We have the rear blue stand, a fresh set of blue grips and a Ducati 998S Bostrom version windshield. Original owner felt those small items may be tough to obtain later down the road, so decided to grab those unique items while available. We have all the original stock parts and a few extra items collected over the years like a signed Bostrom baseball cap, brochures, Ducati racing calendar from 2002 and a Bostrom Replica Soumy helmet like the one he wore during his career. Owner’s manual, rear stand, service receipts, accessory catalog, tool kit, both original factory keys and a clean WA title are all in hand.

That’s right, if you hop onto last-year’s 996 immediately after riding the new 998 (like we did), the old engine feels like it belongs in a tractor.

That’s because the 2002 998S gets the Testastretta engine-just like the one that won the World Superbike championship last year (in what was called the 996R). Ducati went with the time-honored bigger-bore/shorter-stroke method when it came time to extract more power, but the 998 is an entirely new engine, producing a claimed 123 (crankshaft) horsepower at 9750 rpm to the 996’s 112 hp at 8500 rpm. Torque is, of course, also up, from 67 to 71 foot-pounds-at the same 8000 rpm.

The 998S Bostrom Version is a limited edition motorcycle highlighted by a unique “Stars & Stripes” graphic treatment inspired by official Ducati Team racer Ben Bostrom. Only a small quantity of 155 998S Bostrom versions will be imported to North America in 2002. This number is highly significant in so far as 155 is Ben’s racing number. The Bostrom version is the performance leader of the street legal Superbike pack. Components such as the Öhlins front and rear suspension, Öhlins adjustable steering damper, light and racy carbon fiber airbox and lower fairing are normally expensive extras on other bikes, but are standard on the 998S Bostrom version, subtracting plenty from its weight but adding lots to the appeal of this exclusive model. The picture is completed with a gorgeous trellis frame and 5 spoke Marchesini wheels in blue.
