In this lecture on Types of Operating System, we will cover three OS types namely, uniprogramming, multi programming and time sharing operating systems. The difference between uni-programming, multi-programming and time-sharing operating systems is discussed with the help of animations which make it easier to understand the concepts. Uni-programming OS are those which have only one process in the system at a time. In multi-programming the processor shifts to another process when the current process requests some I/O operation. In time sharing operating systems each process is given equal amount to CPU time in round robin fashion.
