(00:18) Local Lumber Sourcing
One of the neat trends over the last five years is a shift toward using more domestic wood species for the use of interior homes and the move away from shipping in exotic woods from other countries. The beauty of us being located here in Indiana is that we have a great selection of wood to choose from, especially from our neighbors.
(00:38) Where We Source Our Lumber From
In Michigan and Pennsylvania, we get a great selection of Cherry. In Indiana, we have a prime selection of Walnut. And in Illinois, there are some great White Oak forests. Many times, we are not only choosing the pack of lumber, but we are choosing the log and even going into the woods and partner with the people who are growing the lumber to choose the right tree.
(01:09) Milling the Lumber
We are able to further partner with milling companies who dry the lumber to our exact specifications for use in our various wood products, whether they be butcher block thick treads for floating stairs or sleek cable railing handrail.
(01:19) Jon Explains Sourcing Hard Maple
Hard Maple is probably our third most in-demand wood species right now. We use tags to tell us where the vendors come from and how much wood is in the stack. We are thankful to partner with Wolverine Hardwoods as a vendor for all our Maple.
