The Saraiva family, led by José Saraiva, had been in the wine business for generations. José inherited the estate and expanded it into a flourishing enterprise. Despite their success, the family lived modestly, avoiding the trappings of an extravagant lifestyle. José, however, had a mysterious side. The farmhouse still contains Portuguese and German uniforms from World War II, though some have been stolen over the years.
