Someone asked me in a comment, “Do even small amounts of soy and flaxseed disrupt hormone function?”

One practitioner I consult with told me she has several patients who became real difficult to manage on estradiol all of a sudden. Turns out they were taking ground up flaxseeds in a daily protein shake, and that was enough phytoestrogen to sit on those estrogen receptors and block them. They responded again when flaxseed was stopped.

Here’s why: Black beans contain 9mcg of phytoestrogen per 100g, chickpeas have 5. Soy beans have 103,920mcg, and flaxseed? 379,380! That’s huge. So 10g, like you might put in a protein shake has 37,938mcg of phytoestrogen. Way too much.

So, yes, even small amounts of soy beans and flaxseed cause problems because they’re loaded with fake estrogen. Just avoid them both.
