Here’s how a professional landscape photographer captures this beautiful mountain range during sunrise.
For this shot I’m using the Nikon z30 with the 24-200mm and the Peak Design travel tripod.
It’s around 7 am now and at this point the sun has been up for a few minutes, but we can still grab some great colors and lighting as the light is still soft.
We’re shooting this in the Los Angeles national forest and for this composition I’m trying to take a bit wider of a shot to showcase the entirety of the mountain range with the peak in the back being the main subject matter.
After we captured the image we can now go back to the studio and edit the image.
Start with color calibration to get perfect colors as a foundation for the rest of the editing process.
Now we’re evening out the exposure so the masking process is easier
We then create a mask for the sky and then duplicate and invert it so the foreground can be edited individually.
Last is color grading where I’m adding in orange to the highlights and mid tones but blue for the foreground.
This is the final image and I’m pretty happy with this one. It showcases the beauty of an early sunrise and the gorgeous mountain range.
