Grape-Nuts and ESPN's Kenny Mayne team up to help you and your wife host a respectable dinner party for the in-laws. From practical recipes to table setting, we'll arm you with the knowledge to throw an impressive event in this episode of the Guy's Manual.

HOST KENNY MAYNE
Your mother in-law. Your father inlaw.
They sure know how to party. And Jason here is pretty lucky. His wife just invited his new in-laws over for a dinner party. What a way to spend a Friday night. Food, family, and thinly veiled criticism. But dont lose hope,
Jay. They're not impossible to please. If you heed these simple nuggets of wisdom, youll throw a dinner party even they can appreciate. First off, do your shopping and prep work ahead of time. You'll take some of the pressure off. Now you may be tempted to wow them
with culinary fireworks, but dont set the bar to impractical heights. Wasting valuable time making hand pulled noodles or winter melon soup ensures youll still be cooking when your guests arrive. Better to go with a dish thats tasty, but simple. The less time you spend in the kitchen, the more time you can spend tending to their every need. Which leads us to our next tip. Keep the conversation positive and moving forward. If you don't watch your lady's back, she might get sandbagged. You know mothers and daughters.
ASTRID
So, Stacy, did you already quit
that pilates class?

But what it truly comes down to is the little details that set the mood. The music? Something from their era. Soft and swinging. The lighting? Low, but not so low you cant see your food.
BILL
This meat is so tender my knife cuts right through it.
KENNY MAYNE
Put some bread sticks in a vase. Toss some cucumbers in the water for a touch of class. Light a fancy Japanese candle. Spend enough time on the minor details and they're sure to be impressed.
ASTRID
This was wonderful, I say we make it a weekly thing.
KENNY
Hurray? Until next time, enjoy being a man who gets the tough things done.
