In this lesson, I’ll teach you how to play The Rattlin' Bog on the D tin whistle – a popular easy traditional Irish tune.
This tutorial is beginner-friendly, with on-screen tabs, clear fingerings, and a steady pace to help you get the melody under your fingers, phrase by phrase.
At the end of the video, I introduce several ornaments that you can try adding to the tune. This includes the slide, the cut, the bounce, the dip, the tap and the pickup.
If you’re not quite ready for ornamentation yet, no problem – the tune sounds great even in its simplest form.
Note, I use horizontal lines in the on-screen tabs to show note durations, which helps with rhythm and phrasing, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the tune. Nothing beats listening to the tune as much as possible to get the tune into your head.
Notes in the upper octave are marked with a "+" to guide your breath control.
Thanks for watching! If you find this lesson helpful, please give it a like and consider subscribing for more tin whistle tutorials. It will be obvious to you that I’m still learning both the whistle and the craft of making these videos. – so bear with me as I gain skills in both departments.
Happy Whistling!
