"This song has NEVER gotten much love from the fans which is a real shame. I always liked it because it had such a kick-A beat and tempo. The arrangement is The Motown Sound amped up with about 30 gallons of coffee. The horn arrangement is incredible and Diana was singing with such urgency, as if her life depended on this song. It just sounded fresh, new and really exciting, but apparently it was too new or too fresh or too something because "Some Things You Never Get Used To" was pretty much a flop on the charts. I never heard this on Oldies radio so it was a complete surprise when I found out about it. But, we are here today to celebrate the incredible drum work here- and the drums sound absolutely like Righteous Fury!

Is this Uriel Jones playing the drums here? I've read that of the three main Motown drummers (Benny Benjamin, Richard "Pistol" Allen and Uriel) Uriel played his drums the hardest. If that's so and IF this is indeed Uriel, this is an excellent example of his style. You could even call this Motown Power Drumming at its best. The fills or maybe you could call them transitions (?) are amazing on this one. They're played with blinding, whiplash speed. The drumming style here is very funky and hard edged, a sort of skipping beat where the snare is hit and then there is a follow up, second hit on the snare, an almost "ghost" strike that gives the song a slightly galloping, skipping rhythm. You can hear this style on many Motown songs from the second half of the sixties; The Marvelettes' "Here I Am Baby," The Supremes' "Sunny Boy," "Sweet Thing," The Temptations' "Fan The Flame", Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' "If You Can Want" amongst a many, many others."
