From artist/designer Joe Edge, this is Edge Industries Spinning Top #98 in a Bronze/Titanium/Fordite design, with a ruby spin bearing. The top is 1.25 inches in diameter, weights 52.5g, and has provided spin times ranging from a low of 8:42 (min:sec) to 9:12. Spin quality is very smooth and stable, with the top definitely performing at its best when given a strong, flat launch. Particularly on larger and/or deeper concavity spin stages, a canted launch will find this top slowly orbiting the stage without drama but taking its time to settle to a point spin.
This video illustrates the visual effects seen during video capture with a Nikon D7100 DSLR as the camera exposure settings are adjusted from a slow shutter speed of 1/200th sec at ISO 400 up to 1/3200th sec @ ISO 6400, maintaining a fixed aperture of f/16. Shutter speed/ISO settings were chosen to maintain the same exposure level throughout the video. By increasing the shutter speed, motion blur is progressively reduced and the details in the top become more apparent as do the warping distortions introduced by the rolling shutter effect. The last part of the video, a close-up of the top, is shot at 1/5000th sec, ISO 6400.
