In a previous video I replaced a faulty incandescent bulb in my grandson's torch with some LEDs scavenged from somewhere else. In the comments Peter Carlyle suggested using a 1w white LED instead so I ordered some off eBay and they arrived yesterday. I made hard work of this, I am sure I could do better. I wonder if just crushing the glass bulb might work and then solder the filament support wires direct to the LED?
There are direct replacements LED bulbs available now, although they were rather expensive last time I looked. This little project was more a matter of "will it work", but I would say it was probably not a practical solution unless you happen to enjoy this sort of project. If you search eBay or other online stores for "LED Focus Flashlight Replacement Bulb Torch Work Light 3V 4.5V 6V" you will probably find something suitable.
========================
Here is Peter Carlyle's suggestion from my previous video
a 1w white led can take 3v from a pair of aa batteries using only their internal resistance, and can be soldered into a torch bulb case. use a soldering iron to melt the filler binding the glass bulb to the metal case, and a wire from the centre connection to the positive terminal. the negative terminal can be soldered to the case.

SAFETY WARNING
I am using low power low heat generating LEDs here, you may be tempted to buy higher powered ones to give extra bright light but be aware that will probably generate significant heat and cause various problems like melting your torch or catching fire. You will need to consider heat sinks and other safety factors.
