Compression bits combine up-cut and down-cut geometry to give you an incredibly clean edge on both the top and bottom of your material. But if the up-cut portion is thicker than your material, the compression advantage is lost. The "merger zone" on Ultra-Shear's Short Up-Cut Compression Bit extends just over 1/8" from the end, meaning it gives you true compression cuts on material as thin as 1/4" (6mm). We've put that short up-cut on a bit with 3/8" cutting diameter, 1-1/8" length of cut and a 1/2" shank. The smaller cutting diameter can save you valuable material when cutting parts out of full sheets and reduces the workload on your router at the same time.
