UK warns of 'direct action' against Yemen's Houthi rebels | Israel-Hamas war

Britain's defence secretary has warned the UK will not hesitate to take "direct action" against Houthi rebels who have attacked ships in the Red Sea.

The Iran-backed group have been attacking ships which they say are connected to or travelling to Israel.

The Houthis, along with Iran, have pledged support for Hamas following the 7 October attack on Israel.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Grant Shapps wrote: "The Houthis should be under no misunderstanding: we are committed to holding malign actors accountable for unlawful seizures and attacks."

He added: "Continued Red Sea aggression risks miscalculation and escalation which could trigger a region-wide conflict."
