The BMW X2 is part of a popular category of crossover SUVs. The small, luxury SUV is a growing category for those who want a little more ambience and quality of materials in a smaller package, but the BMW X2, like most modern BMWs, has polarizing exterior styling. Weirdly, as we lived with the BMW X2 for a week, the BMW X2 styling wasn't really our main complaint about the vehicle. Sure, the BMW X2 isn't the best looking vehicle in the class... or in any class, but the interior is pretty fantastic in this class of small SUV and the tech more than lives up to what's expected. No, the BMW X2 in day to day driving doesn't DRIVE as well as some of the competition -- at least not in stop and go style traffic. When the BMW X2 starts hustling, especially in fully loaded trim with M sport accessories as this BMW X2 has, it's quite good... maybe even the best in the class. But most normal people don't drive like that, which is why we're a better metric for a two person household: one of us is a driving enthusiast and semi maniac and one of us is a normal human being. Megan, the normal one, did NOT like the day to day driving of the BMW X2 because of the ludicrously intrusive start/stop system and dual clutch transmission whereas Jack, the crazy one, found those things irritating but praised the BMW's overall competance in this class of vehicle. No one expects small, fwd based crossover hatchbacks to be backroad dominating sports cars, but the BMW X2 has excllent body control and a punchy powertrain. Is that enough to make up for its shortcomings at over $50k? Nope, but it certainly helps to bring some of the shine back to an otherwise solid vehicle. We'd strongly suggest that you take a test drive before purchasing because it will be much more representative of what life with the BMW X2 is like, just make sure you drive it long enough to really get a sense of the behavior in stop and go traffic.
