Manthan - India’s first crowdfunded film at Cannes 2024
This week on #PopCulturePatrol, @civicstudios and I talk to you about Shyam Benegal ki 1976 ki film Manthan jo just rescreen hui at Cannes Film festival.
The film, which had 5 lakh farmers as its producers, won 2 national film awards for best feature film in Hindi and screenplay!
Unke contributions ne na sirf films costs cover kiye but made a small profit too. It was also one of the few Indian films which were distributed abroad, in South Africa, South America, Central America and China, under the English title “The Churning”.
