Can You See God And Live?
The Bible teaches that God's full essence is beyond human perception; direct exposure would be overwhelming. As stated in Exodus 33:20, "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live." However, God has chosen to reveal Himself through various manifestations that are perceivable to humans.
For instance, God appeared to Moses in a cloud, allowing for communication without exposing His full glory. Exodus 34:5 describes, "The LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there." Similarly, during the Israelites' exodus, God led them as a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, symbolizing His guidance and presence.
In the New Testament, Jesus Christ embodies the ultimate manifestation of God. He is described as "the image of the invisible God" in Colossians 1:15, making the divine nature accessible and knowable.
Therefore, while God's essence remains unseen and unapproachable, His manifestations—whether through theophanies in the Old Testament or through Jesus Christ in the New Testament—allow humanity to experience His presence and understand His nature.
