The approach to improve the rate of the push notification acceptance (Miyabi Gouji)
Push notifications are an important feature that allows users to communicate with your users outside of your app. However, the hurdle to get users to opt-in for notifications has been getting higher each year. Android 13 also added Notification Permission, which allows users to choose which notifications they want. This seems to have lowered the notification permission rate for users who install new apps. Furthermore, once the permission is turned off, there are few opportunities to turn it on again, so various measures are required to improve the permission rate.
In this session, I will share the actual process that we used for analyzing the notification permission acceptance rate in our apps and implementing remedial measures, as well as the results and the improvement cycle of these measures.
What is push notification acceptance
Behavior of Android 13 and 12 and below
Sharing the issue of notification permission
Factors that cause it to be turned OFF
Number of users who turn it ON
Introduction of initiatives to prevent notifications from being turned off
Channel support
Overview of actual responses
Analysis of users
Behavior analysis of the users who turn on the permission
Hypothesis building
Alignment regarding the degree of contribution to the business
Implementation of measures
Consideration of UI/UX
Detailed implementation
Effectiveness verification
AB test design
Permission change
The discussion will focus not only on improving the permission rate, but also on the process that developers go through to propose and implement measures, and how they are actually implemented and improved. Let's provide a better experience by finding issues and proposing solutions from an engineer's point of view!
