Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus plant care should be easy with using a plant specific substrate. This is a stem plant and feeds on most of its nutrients through its roots. This is a very versatile plant and it can even be floated. It gets its name from its octopus like leaves that fan out and look beautiful in a fish tank. The Octopus plant does best under fairly high light.

Propagating the Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus plant consist of cutting anywhere on the stem and just replanting that cutting. The stem of the plant prefers to be in the substrate because that’s where it feeds on nutrients and spreads the roots. Even though this plant can be floated and stay alive at the surface of the water, it prefers to be planted into the substrate by its stem.
The octopus plant prefers medium lighting but it can grow under low lighting. It is also said to of need CO2 to grow properly in an aquarium but that’s not true. This plant is effectively being grown under low light with zero CO2 added. The plant will do better though and grow to the best of its ability with high light and CO2 added.
The best substrate to use with the octopus plant is a nutrient rich plant substrate. Gravel or sand may work for some people but it’s not the best option because there’s no nutrients in it. A lot of fish keepers find success growing this plant using regular potting soil in their aquarium.
This plant has a bushy like look to it and it’s a beautiful background plant. It can grow extremely tall in your aquarium so you will most likely be clipping it and re-planting them or selling them.
