How has Delhi changed after independence?
Recently, I stumbled upon this amazing map!
And I was surprised to know how Delhi became what it is today. It's so unbelievable that just a few decades back, there were trees and agricultural lands where bustling neighbourhoods like Lajpat Nagar and Rajinder Nagar stand today.
Post-Partition Delhi transformed significantly after 1947, marked by a large influx of Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan. This led to the emergence of major refugee settlements in areas like GTB Nagar, Vijay Nagar, and Model Town.
This influx of refugees and development made the city's population and culture majorly Punjabi by the 1950s.
