In this tutorial we'll be going over how to open a closed path in Illustrator. There's actually two ways to go about this. One would be to break the path at a specific anchor point, using the Direct Selection Tool. The other would be to use the Scissors tool to cut the path at any point you desire. In this lesson we briefly go over each.
