On January 1, 1959, Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries overthrew Cuban leader Fulgencio Batista, who fled to the Dominican Republic.
STORYLINE:
These pictures show scenes of turmoil in the capital Havana, as the climax of revolution was reached. The mob was out of hand. At-last, Dr Fidel Castro himself arrived. Time and again, he was held up by the crowds. He spoke to them of the new regime now being inaugurated: a regime, now formally recognised by Britain.
