"If you're from Indianapolis, Indiana or just a fan of the history of Top 40 radio, you might be very interested in the documentary, "Naptown Radio Wars." A fascinating recounting of [mainly] three radio stations: WIBC AM, WIFE AM and WNAP FM. The short version is that WIBC AM came first and was very successful at what they did; but this was just before the dawn of a new kind of music that was coming on strong with the youth of America: Rock 'N' Roll. As Rock 'N' Roll caught on, WIBC adapted its programming but Radio is all about who can do what you do- and do it better.
In the Fall of 1963, WIFE AM stormed to citadel and kicked down every door in sight. WIFE basically buried the competition and held the top spot for most of the '60s until... someone else came and did what WIFE did- and did it better.
In 1968, WNAP came on the scene armed with a few weapons that would help it take down WIFE; first, WNAP was on FM, with a superior signal, higher clarity of sound and air talent comprised of young, eager college kids, WNAP would develop a far more freewheeling sound- a mix of traditional Top 40 during the day, but at night, album tracks and full album play was what listeners heard; the beginnings of Underground FM Radio [tempered with mainstream Top 40 hits.]
But we're getting ahead of things. For your listening pleasure are a mix of PAMS jingles WIFE had on the air, I'm guessing in 1964, the year 'Series 27 The Jet Set' was released, the newest of the packages featured here, which include 'Series 25 The Happy Difference' and 'Series 26 Let's Go America', both from 1963.
