Blood Clotting time test: capillary method: tube and slide method: coagulation profile lecture 3

1. introduction
The time taken by the blood to clot is called clotting time.
When the blood is obtained from clean venipuncture is put in glass tube then clotting factor activated and the blood will clot.
2. purpose
To diagnose hemophilia or von Willebrand's disease.
3. method of CT
Capillary method
Slide method
Tube method (lee and white method)
4. procedure of Capillary method
Prick the pulp of the finger by lancet and suck the blood using capillary tube.
Start the stopwatch and after every 30 sec break the tube at every point respectively until thread like structure observed.
Once the thread like structure observed stop the stopwatch and note the time which is clotting time.
procedure of slide method
Prick the pulp of the finger by lancet and put the blood drop onto the slide.
Start the stopwatch and after every 30 sec check the clot formation by swirling slide and observe thread like structure.
Once the thread like structure observed stop the stopwatch and note the time which is clotting time
procedure of tube method
Take the blood from the patient and put it into clean glass tube. i.e. 2 ml in each two test tube respectively.
Place the tube in water bath at 37C and start the stopwatch
After 4 min tilt the tube and check the clot after every 30 sec
Once the blood clot observe then stop the stopwatch and note the time which is clotting time.
