This video explains the battle between Yuno and Zenon in Black Clover episode 161. Half the Golden Dawn had already been destroyed by the Spade Kingdom's 'Dark Disciples' and Yuno proves no match for Zenon, who is possessed by a devil with spatial magic. Episode 161 was called 'Zenon's Power', as Zenon uses 55% of his devil powers to defeat Yuno and capture the arcane stage mage he came for.

In black clover episode 160, we saw how the golden dawn HQ was raided by just 3 people from the spade kingdom, with the leader of the group being Zenon himself. As a member of the dark triad Zenon is possessed by a devil and therefore he’s able to tap into two different types of magic. He can firstly use bone magic which is what he was born with and secondly he can use this spatial magic that belongs to his devil. The spatial magic was already displayed in episode 160. With these two magic types Zenon was able to single handedly defeat the strongest Diamond kingdom soldiers before the timeskip and now in the present day, he’s coming for the captain of the golden dawn.
The two dark disciples who are with him are not possessed by a devil, but instead they have been given devil powers by the dark triad that boosts their original magic. Each can use up to 40% of the power of a devil, but given that the golden dawn is meant to be the strongest squad, it was still crazy to see half of them wiped out by these two side villains. As one of the dark disciples stated, William Vangeance is an arcane stage mage, which means his magic is an irregular type that has the potential to defeat a devil. Asta’s anti-magic and Yami’s dark magic are other examples of arcane stage abilities and William is being targeted because he has this power.
Zenon had been terrorising captain Vangeance since the previous episode and used a bone magic spell called eternal fangs, which is what caused the ceiling to cave in. William did fight back but it was likely too hard for him to fight whilst also trying to protect Alecdora. That’s why William was absolutely destroyed by eternal fangs.
Moving on to the many reasons why Yuno lost this fight, he had already faced off against two dark disciples at this point and the damage he took from the first battle held him back. The 2nd dark disciple spells it out for us when he says Yuno looks tired, meaning Zenon did not fight Yuno at his best at all. On the flip side, Zenon was perfectly fine and had not even taken his hands out of his pockets by the time Yuno went in to attack him, which shows he had not really exhausted himself during the brief fight with Vangeance. Therefore you can see that before the fight even began, the odds were greatly stacked against Yuno and this was only made worse by fact that Zenon’s spatial magic then came in to play.
The anime doesn’t fully reveal what’s going on here and I won’t go into spoilers, but at the very least you can see that the Devils spatial magic has created A cube that surrounds both characters. Zenon went up to 55% of his devil powers to create this thing, so obviously it has some positive effect in Zenon’s favour otherwise he wouldn’t do it. In this space Zenon was able to do something that made my jaw drop when I first read it in the manga and that was him cutting through Yuno’s spirit of Zephr. I had never even considered the possibility that it could be cut, especially not with a sword made of bone but a reason this might’ve happened is due to the space that Zenon trapped them in. My feeling is that the anime has done a good job so far of making the dark triad intimidating and that filler we got last week with the expanded backstory also made them seem way more evil than they already why.
Regardless, later in the episode after Zenon stabbed Yuno through the stomach, the fact that Slyph (the wind spirit) was starting to disappear is proof that he really was going to die here. You could argue that maybe he could’ve done a more efficient job in trying to kill Yuno, but remember that from Zenon’s perspective, everyone in the golden dawn is either dead or on the verge of death, so there would be no one around who could actually come and save Yuno in time. If Vangance hadn’t have left behind that spell then it definitely would’ve been the end, so I don’t really blame zenon for that oversight.
