The Ladakh protest reason & Sonam Wangchuk Climate Fast unto death is linked to their demand for the implementation of the 6th Schedule for Ladakh.

One part of the Ladakh protest is linked to the indigenous communities there seeking democratic rights and autonomy for the local communities to decide what kind & how much of development they want.

The other very important aspect of why Sonam Wangchuk (‪@SonamWangchuk66‬ ) is on a fast unto death is linked to to environmental concerns. These include the risk of indiscrimnate land and water use in case of indiscrimnate opening up to outsiders to set up industries and even tourism. This is because the local water availability is extremely low and the per capita water use is just 5 lt per day. Also, the seemingly barren and desert-like terrain of Ladakh is home to some highly rare and endangers flora and fauna.
