The fruit itself is truly a marvel. Each grape is about the size of a ping pong ball, and they are known for their brilliant red color, extraordinary sweetness, low acidity, and high juice content. The grapes must meet strict criteria to be labeled as Ruby Roman: each grape must weigh at least 20 grams and have a sugar content of over 18%.
The high cost of these grapes is driven by a combination of factors, including their rarity, quality, labor-intensive cultivation process, and the culture surrounding fruit gifting in Japan.
