Do you have the means to keep the lights on when the power goes out? Will the sump pump continue to protect your basement from the rainfall in a heavy storm? Will your fridge be able to keep your food from spoiling?
If you are able to do these things you are way ahead the curve! But, are able to take these power sources with you in the event you needed to leave home for another location, and will they last long term if things don't go back to normal?
From powering small flashlights to fridges using batteries to Solar Generators/Portable Power Stations, here are some of the methods I use to KTLO (keep the lights on).
**SPECIAL NOTE**: Remember to be safe when running gas generators. People die every year from CO (Carbon Monoxide) Poisoning. Only use generators in an extremely well ventilated area, preferably more than 20 feet away from the living space and outside. Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, tasteless, very deadly gas that will displace the oxygen in your body. This is another reason why I prefer to use only solar generators, unless in an emergency. Always carry a CO monitor when working with combustion devices. Here is one on amazon: https://amzn.to/3b3xfxd. I have 1 of these for every floor of the house.
