Duolingo English Test update: Scored Writing Sample
As of February 28, 2022, the Writing Sample on the Duolingo English Test will now be a scored question. Dr. Ramsey joins Caroline to talk about this recent change.
What is changing?
Beginning on February 28, the Writing Sample will now be a scored question, contributing to the overall score as well as the Literacy and Production subscores. Everything else about the question type will remain the same, including the directions, time limit, and question flow. It will continue to be shared to institutions with your results.
Why will the Writing Sample be scored?
Scoring the Writing Sample helps to evaluate the kind of writing you will use in a university setting, without adding to the length of the test.
How will the Writing Sample be scored?
The Writing Sample will be scored using the same methods that we use for other open-response writing. You can find more information about that on page 32 of the Readiness Guide.
