STEP by STEP Guide
In Gmail, folders can be found listed in the left hand side of your inbox. Gmail refers to these folders as labels, but they work in pretty much the same way as folders.
1 - To delete any folder, you need to first move your mouse pointer over it.
You’ll see it's highlighted and a small 3 dots icon is shown at the right of the folder.
2 - Some folders have no small icon shown. This is because there is a specific type of folder in Gmail called a System Label. These folders are created by Gmail and cannot be deleted.
3 - Returning to our folder list, I’ll choose a folder that I want to delete. I’m going to move my mouse pointer over the 3 dots icon I mentioned earlier, and I’ll click on that once.
4 - A drop down list is then shown but I’m interested in an option near the very bottom of the list - Remove label. Remember, Gmail calls folders, labels so this is really the option to delete the folder.
5 - If I click on that once, a box pops up asking me to confirm that I want to remove the label or folder I have chosen. If you delete a folder, it doesn’t delete the emails that are stored in that folder - these are still kept in your inbox
6 - So if you are sure you want to continue with removing this folder, click on the large blue delete button.
7 - Gmail then confirms that the label has been deleted and you’ll see that the folder is no longer in the list in your inbox.
