Beginning at Piazzale Michelangelo, we'll soak in the panoramic views of Florence's red-tiled rooftops and the Arno River winding through the city. Next, we'll cross the historic Ponte Vecchio, Florence's oldest bridge dating back to 1345. Unlike any ordinary crossing, this medieval bridge is lined with high-end jewelry shops that have stood for centuries. Notice the Vasari Corridor running above – a secret passageway built for the Medici family to move between palaces without mixing with commoners.
Our path continues to Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of Florence, where masterful sculptures including the replica of Michelangelo's David, Cellini's Perseus with the Head of Medusa, and Ammannati's Neptune Fountain create an open-air museum of Renaissance power. Marvel at the imposing Palazzo Vecchio with its clock tower reaching a height of 94 metres.
At Piazza della Repubblica, we'll encounter Florence's more modern face, originally the site of the city's forum; then of its old ghetto. Construction of the arch started in 1895, and the elegant colonnaded buildings now house historic cafés like Caffè Giubbe Rosse.
Lastly, visit Florence Cathedral, where Brunelleschi's revolutionary dome dominates the skyline. Inside you'll discover one of the Renaissance's most ambitious artworks - the Last Judgement by Vasari and Zuccari. The painting consists of five concentric levels and eight triangular segments, depicting heaven and hell in vivid detail.
