CONVERGE can easily and accurately simulate complex moving geometries, like that of a tricone drill bit. In this simulation, both the shaft and the drill bits are rotating. Air flows down through the shaft to cool the drill bits. The colors represent velocity, with blue indicating low and red indicating high. Adaptive Mesh Refinement was employed to capture large gradients in velocity, while simultaneously reducing simulation runtime. To accommodate moving geometries, CONVERGE uses a stationary mesh that is regenerated at each timestep, which minimizes artificial viscosity and increases the accuracy of your results.
