As a Law and English undergraduate student graduating from the University of Cape Town, Courtney felt inclined to pursue an English teaching career along side her other pofessions of doing legal, academic and creative work. She began teaching online in 2018 at a call center in Cape Town and then continued working as a freelance English teacher. Soon after, Courtney moved to China where she taught at an English training school in the heart of Chengdu for 8 months.
